CHAPTER 2: Stormlight

Alas, after the long wait, I have finally completed chapter 2 of this ever-so-peculiar science fiction epic. I have also been working hard on a very moby-like track and I have finally finished it. It is probably my most polished song to date. Its called "Euphoria", go download it here. Recommended listening while reading: "Rotorblade" by Juno Reactor, "Reign" by Unkle, "Them Belly Full (But We Hungry) Ambient Mix" by Bob Marley. Enjoy...

CHAPTER 2: Stormlight

Frozen clouds spouted showers of yellow dust over the Melter base. It consisted of a perplex series of insulated tents, quartz totems, and chasms. A mining robot whirred by Jhadre's face, a low hum that was resonant and gloomy bellowed among the mining complex. "Hey Jhadre, pass me down one of them YSG's, I got something here!". Jhadre Ovonek peered down the skinny hole that carried the voice of his comrade. "Hox, I think another dusters comin', we should hit the station." The wind moaned as yellow particles began to fill the horizon. "What's the stats?" the arabian voice of Hox yelled back. "Richter 7, maybe 8? It looks bad", Jhadre's eyes squinted, as a wave of orange dust scratched at his face. Hox quickly popped up, he was using an offworld levitator - a hovering device designed for navigation through chasms. "Allah oh mighty..." a smile quivered in Hox's lips. "Look at the size of that thing!" Up ahead, a massive cyclone of dust and debris tore through the desert, spitting chunks of ice, rock, and refuse everywhere. Jhadre grabbed Hox's arm, a small watery crystal hidden in the palm of his left hand glowed. Masses of melters ran into the shelterdome, both a plasmashock protected shelter, living quarters, and defense lab.

"We continue our operation once the dust dissolves - nobody goes out without asking me, get it it?" Jhadre was stern, he didn't enjoy being team leader, let alone be a mazer - a career pursued only for self survival and benefit. "Jhad, I'm picking up some readings here - some kind of craft in Arthon orbit, you want the specs?", Tryxx, Hox's sister quietly asked Jhadre. "Hand em to me" Tryxx handed Jhadre a small electronic device, emitting a hologram of a spherical craft. "One of the spheres..." he sighed, and flicked off the device. "Alright mazers, we got some resistance in AP orbit. Pull your knickers up and grab hold of some artillery, we don't want these frogs dropping bombs on our horde" - the thought of a battle thrilled Jhadre, he had been in many - mazers against spheres, usually just firefights in the many gulches of Arthon Prime. The shelterdome shook. Jhadre suspected that a ice chunk had hit. Hours passed through the viscous cycle of time, and the storm had not abated whatsoever.

Hox rolled down one of the plasmascreen windows to reveal a bright pulsating orange light across the outer field. "Look at these oscillations - if that's a richter 8.. damn, richter 9, 10 or even 11 must be even more beau-" Jhadre entered the solarium and pulled at Hox's shoulder. "What are you doing? You trying to fry your irises? Camon, Trixey's cooking." Hox lips quivered, ignoring Jhadre, fixated at the orange light. "You hit?" Jhadre's words were negative ten pitch in Hox's ears. Hox slowly glanced up, his head twitching - "Hey man.. look, it was just one drop.. nothing serious right..?". Hox's eyes glazed over in euphoric ecstasy. Jhadre whipped out an odd rusty switchblade in one quick motion, holding against the tanned skin of Hox's neck. Hox quivered and began to whimper. "What did I tell you about the maze? Getting spliced during a richter 7 storm? Despicable. Anset, go put Hox in the brig.", A large man wearing a yellow uniform dragged Hox's slothlike body into a containment cell. "Trixy ain't gonna be 'appy bout dis mon, mazing on de job ain't pretty, no?" Anset, ran his spiny fingers through his dreads, then walked off.

Dust screamed through the crystal walls of the shelterdome, the clouds all dissolved in the soup of the storm. Above the scarlet madness, the Greensphere rolled through the spotted galaxy. Almost directly parallel to the icy moon of Arthon Prime, a ringed moon glowed a bright blue - it was Gadron Prime, one of the many oceanic worlds, most celebrated for its complex underwater series of roadways and metropoli. Ivonne awoke from his rest, and barrel-rolled his body through a ladder-tunnel. Out of the corner of his eye, a blurry red light flashed - it was the resistance warning light. The Greensphere was under attack.
